"What is worth having is worth waiting for."
(Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross)
On November 28, 2025, I experienced one of the most significant moments of my academic journey: the defense of my Final Course Project (TCC) in Philosophy at the Salesian University Center in Vitória/ES. After three years of intense study, I was able to present to the examining board the theme that accompanied me throughout this journey: "Empathy and ethics from the perspective of Edith Stein."

Under the guidance of Professor Canício Scherer, I immersed myself in the reflections of the German philosopher and found in her an inspiration to consider the importance of sensitivity and moral responsibility in human relationships. The defense was followed by observations and questions from the examining committee, and at the end I received confirmation of my approval.
Reflecting on empathy and ethics from Edith Stein's perspective, I realized how deeply this theme intertwines with the mission of the Shepherdess Sisters, whose vocation is to serve God's people with love and closeness. Empathy, understood as the ability to put oneself in another's place, illuminates the pastoral path and strengthens presence within communities, especially in situations of pain and vulnerability. Ethics, as a commitment to truth and goodness, guides every act of service, ensuring that our pastoral action is not only welcoming but also responsible and transformative. Thus, philosophical study becomes a living practice in the mission, reaffirming that to serve is to become a bridge of hope and humanity.
This moment was not only the conclusion of an academic stage, but also an invitation to continue reflecting on and deepening the role of philosophy in building a more just and humane society.
