18th National Eucharistic Congress – Recife/PE

From the 11th to the 15th of November, we participated with joy and gratitude in one of the most important events of the Catholic Church in Brazil: the 18th National Eucharistic Congress, in Recife/PE. The same theme was: “Bread on every table” and motto: “They shared bread with joy and there was no needy among them” (At 2,46).

It was an opportune moment to feel the strength of a synodal Church, which walks in solidarity and inserted in the concrete reality of the world. On Saturday, Archbishop Dom Fernando Saburido opened the theological symposium. There were workshops that aimed to deepen the mystery of the Eucharist.

The public catecheses were open to all and the themes were related to the Eucharist and the Church. On Tuesday morning, there was the inauguration of the bread and breakfast house, for the street population. This was the concrete gesture of the Congress. In this house the daily distribution of meals will take place.

There was the chapel where the Blessed Sacrament was exposed, with adoration every day by the faithful who passed by. The Sacred Host is an invigoration for the soul, which puts us on the path of the Master who made bread.

On Tuesday, 11/15, at 4 pm, at Praça Marco Zero, the closing mass took place, which was attended by thousands of people. After the mass, we left in procession with the Blessed Sacrament to the Patio of the Nossa Senhora do Carmo Church, where it was pronounced, after the solemn blessing, that the next National Eucharistic Congress will be in Goiânia/GO.

We thank the Mercedarian Sisters, who welcomed us into their home during this Eucharistic Congress, with great affection. For everything we give thanks to God!
