JGSS Grateful @ 60: Pilgrims and Agents of Hope

As Jesus Good Shepherd School celebrates its 60th anniversary, we reflect with deep gratitude on God’s enduring faithfulness and providence throughout the years. This milestone marks six decades of educational and pastoral service, a journey that has profoundly impacted both the Church and society. The theme of this year’s celebration, JGSS Grateful @ 60: Pilgrims and Agents of Hope, resonates deeply as we join the Universal Church in the Jubilee Year 2025, with its theme, Pilgrims of Hope.

The year-long celebration commenced with a series of meaningful activities that brought together students, faculty, staff, parents, and alumni. These included a bloodletting drive, medical and dental missions, a sports fest, a family fun run, an EntrePamilya of hope, and a poster-making contest.

February 13 – The festivities began with a Thanksgiving Mass at the Mary, Mother of the Good Shepherd Chapel, celebrated by Rev. Fr. Reuel Castaneda, Vicar General and Parish Priest of the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of the Pillar. In his homily, Fr. Reuel congratulated the community, reminding us to continually return to the true source of hope and joy—Jesus Good Shepherd.

Following the Mass, Awards of Recognition were presented to our dedicated and long-serving teachers. Teachers who had exemplified exceptional service and loyalty received awards in recognition of their ten, thirty-three, and thirty-five years of commitment to the school.

The celebration continued with a motorcade, followed by the 7th Bible Quiz Bee in the afternoon, where the spirit of friendly competition and camaraderie filled the air.

February 14 – Valentine's Day, began with Palarong Pinoy, a traditional Filipino game that brought students and teachers together, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines. The games fostered teamwork, sportsmanship, and friendly competition, reflecting the unity and joy within the JGSS community.

The afternoon featured a Showcase of Talents, where the Teatro Shepherdines presented a powerful theatrical piece focusing on resilience, kindness, and hope. A variety of student talents were shared, resulting in breathtaking performances that highlighted the creativity and passion of our school community.

February 15 began with a vibrant Mass Demonstration, celebrating global cultures and the school’s rich history. This special event brought together students, faculty, parents, alumni, special guests, and our sister school in Lingayen, Jesus Good Shepherd Development Center, in a joyful expression of tradition and unity. The presentations featured flags from around the world, with students wearing colorful costumes to represent various countries, highlighting the diversity of cultures and promoting global awareness. This event was a reminder of the importance of global cooperation, peace, and respect for cultural diversity.

In the afternoon, the Grand Alumni Homecoming took place, hosted by the Class of 2000. The event began with a Eucharistic Celebration presided over by Rev. Fr. Paul J. Marquez, SSP. The homecoming was a joyful celebration of friendship, gratitude, and the lasting impact of JGSS. Alumni left with renewed connections and a deepened appreciation for their Alma Mater, as the Silver and Golden Jubilarians passed on the responsibility to the next generation, symbolized by the staff and a lamb, inspired by Jesus, the Good Shepherd.

February 16 was a special day dedicated to celebrating family. The day began with a Holy Mass presided by Rev. Fr. Buen Andrew Cruz, SSP. In his homily, Fr. Buen reminded the assembly that the family is the first symbol of hope. He called on all Shepherdines to embrace their roles as agents of hope, emphasizing four essential actions for a Christian family: listen, offer, value, and embrace.

Following the Holy Mass, Shepherdines gathered in the Gymnasium for the eagerly anticipated Family Day, organized by the Parents Council Officers. This year’s event, themed "A Family of Hope, Love, and Unity," was a heartwarming celebration that strengthened the bonds within the community. The day underscored the crucial role of the family in nurturing faith and instilling Christian values. Filled with joy, meaningful activities, and unforgettable moments, it brought the entire JGSS community closer together.

With hearts full of gratitude, we continue to pray that our school remains a place where faith, hope, and love flourish. Indeed, it was a joyful celebration—a true reflection of our ongoing synodal journey.
